ChrisHartwick's Bio
As a child, Chris often was asked if he wanted to be an artist when he grew up. His reply was always “No.” He considered art more of a hobby or fun pastime than a full-time career. But people were impressed with his artistic ability.
Chris’s perspective changed while studying at Bob Jones University. As a second-semester freshman, he switched from English education to graphic design. His teachers were quite surprised with his skills, especially since he was using his mouth. Even his fellow students were amazed at what he could do. The university held yearly art competitions and also greatly encouraged art students to enter exhibits and competitions in the community. During that time, he won several awards for his artwork. Some of his teachers included Carl Blair, Emory Bopp, and Darrel Koons. Chris graduated with his B.S. degree in graphic design in 1993.
In the summer of 1997, Chris was accepted as a member of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (M.F.P.A.) based in Liechtenstein, Europe. M.F.P.A. is an organization that helps disabled artists to become more self-sufficient by displaying and producing their work around the world. Chris has had six drawings published as greeting cards through the association.
Beautiful clarity, flawless accuracy, and vibrant color characterize Chris’ paintings. His main subject matter is flowers. His favorite mediums are ballpoint pen, gouache, and watercolor.
At present, Chris works full-time as graphic designer for ShowForth, an ancillary division of Bob Jones University. In his spare time he enjoys creating artwork for local and national competitions. Currently his artwork can be viewed at the Artists Guild Gallery of Greenville, downtown Greenville, SC.
