Artist Bio
I am a lifelong resident of
Greenville, SC and intend on keeping it that way. I have been happily married for 23 years and have two grown daughters and one grandson.
I have watched Greenville go from a central hub surrounded by dozens of textile mills, to a decaying “inner city” as the textile industry lost it local base, to the thriving metropolitan sprawl with a particularly art centric downtown area we know today. I have watched the burgeoning art community slowly evolve over the years in
Greenville but it appears to have exploded in growth over the last 5 years or so.
I became interested in photography after being introduced to it by a friend in 1970. I purchased some reasonably decent quality equipment and began “shooting”. I quickly realized that I just wasn’t very good at taking pictures of posing people. I turned my focus (all puns intended) toward outdoor scenic and nature photography as an adjunct to my love of hiking in the area woods and mountains. This was all done with slide film and drugstore processing. For quite a while there were very few “ah’s” mixed in with a lot of “ugh’s” associated with my photos. However, I have slowly learned and applied that hard won knowledge to my photographic technique today. I am now becoming pleased with the outcome of my efforts more often than not and at the urging of family and friends I have now become interested in exhibiting my works so that others may see and understand the incredible beauty we have right here in our own backyard.
All of my work over the last year has been targeted towards the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area of northern Greenville & Pickens counties. I want my images to reflect my love of the outdoors and perhaps inspire others to begin to examine the treasure we have here before neglect or urban sprawl begins to take it away.
